We audit a lot of contractor Google Business Profiles, and the same handful of mistakes show up over and over. None of them are hard to fix — most just get ignored because the profile was set up once, years ago, and never touched again.

Wrong or incomplete category

A profile filed under a generic category, or missing relevant secondary categories, can be invisible for searches it should easily win. This is usually a five-minute fix with an outsized impact.

Missing or outdated hours and service area

Wrong hours cost you calls directly — someone sees "closed" and moves to the next listing. An incomplete service area means you're simply not showing up for searches in towns you actually cover.

Stale or missing photos

Profiles with recent, real photos consistently outperform ones with none, or with the same three photos from years ago. It's one of the easiest signals to fix and one of the most commonly ignored.

Unanswered reviews

A pile of reviews with zero responses — especially the negative ones — reads as a business that doesn't pay attention. A calm, professional response to even a bad review often does more good than a wave of new five-star ones.

No posts, ever

Google Business Profile lets you post updates the same way you'd post on social media, and almost no contractors use it. An active profile signals an active business — to both Google and the person reading it.

Every one of these is fixable in an afternoon. See our Google Business Profile service for how we handle it on an ongoing basis.
